Do You Need an API Key to Use Multiple AIs?
No. Managed credits let you prompt several models without a key. BYOK is optional on Pro and Power for long-tail providers.

No. You do not need an API key to use multiple AIs in flAim. Managed credits cover the curated catalog from the first prompt.
That is the opposite of a BYOK-only frontend, where the product does not start until you paste keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, and everyone else. TypingMind is a strong example of that job. It is a different default.
Three ways people pay for models

When BYOK still makes sense
On Pro and Power you can set an agent to “Your key.” Those prompts bill your provider account and do not spend flAim credits. Optional BYOK providers are the long tail: Copilot, OpenRouter, Perplexity, Figma, Together AI, Groq, Fireworks AI, and MiniMax — eight, not “every model on the internet.”
Use BYOK when you already have committed spend at a provider, need a model we do not manage, or your volume makes direct API cheaper. Do not treat BYOK as a setup step. It is an option after you know the workspace is the right shape.
Provider-specific steps: Documentation. Free cannot add BYOK. That is intentional: Free is a try (10 credits, 1 workspace, 8 agents), not a key manager.
